Wake up to fresh mangos picked from your own garden as you listen to bird song overlooking your own acre of lush tropical forest. Welcome to paradise.
Ready and waiting to be enjoyed. By you.
Wai Savu Rua was built by the current owners in 2011. A labour of love that resulted in the dream home away from home. We all dream of a tropical paradise of our own, so 8 years ago, the Winters set about making their dream come true. After searching across the Fijian archipelago, the perfect location was found on Taveuni. A registered architect and qualified builder were brought on board, and an experienced team established to bring their ideas to life.
Facing the difficult task of building a home on a remote Fijian island, the team worked together to source only the very best materials, mitigate delays and see that the property was built to a very high standard. The result, a well appointed 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home set on an acre of lush tropical gardens. Welcome to Wai Savu Rua.
Goldilocks
Wai Savu Rua is perfectly located at the “Goldilocks” elevation of 400 feet – cooler than on the coast, but below the mountain cloud and forest mist, with far reaching views across world renowned snorkeling and diving locations.
This home is for sale with complete chattels. Absolutely everything included, from the teaspoons to the 4X4.
Lifted up on concrete pillars, Wai Savu Rua catches the sea breezes during the day and mountain breezes at night. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms; the master bedroom has a walk-through wardrobe and en suite bathroom with a stand-alone bath and shower, the family bathroom serves the other 2 bedrooms, one of which has a fold-away office and two single beds that can double up as bunk beds. The other bedroom has a queen size bed and opens onto the veranda.
The large fitted kitchen has granite counters, a double sink, an island with a gas hob, a Miele double electric oven, large fridge/freezer with water dispenser, a larder and ample storage space as well as a kitchen balcony for the barbeque. The large living/dining room has a marble dining table and three-piece suite. The veranda has a dining table, cane chairs and settee and a double hammock. The upstairs is tiled with travertine marble floor tiles throughout. Most of the upstairs is served by North American and local sockets.
Downstairs along with the garage is a very well stocked workshop, again with both 110 and 240 volt circuits. There is a fourth bedroom with handbasin, a garden store stocked with tools, a bathroom with shower and laundry, and a bamboo store for the batteries, gas bottle and an overflow fridge for all your fresh fruit. At the back of the property is a 20-foot container with more storage space and some spares.
A 4-person spa pool is alongside the walkway. There are 24 solar panels on the roof and 3 new powerful lithium batteries, so there is never any shortage of electricity. The garden is tended by the wonderful gardner Maria and the day to day maintenance jobs are done by the ever reliable Sefanaia.
In the garden there are mature fruit trees – mangoes, pineapples, avocados, star fruit, cinnamon trees, 3 types of bananas and 2 types of papaya, and, of course, coconuts. On the edge of the property is a stream with 2 waterfalls (hence the name!) that runs after rain and has tropical forest on two sides, giving refuge to brightly coloured birds. And peace. And quiet.
The nearest secluded beach is a mere 5 minutes’ drive away and is a great place to snorkel along the richly inhabited rocks and coral, full of brilliantly coloured fish and corals. Even closer is a dive resort and restaurant and a 9-hole golf course.
The owners will be leaving a fully equipped home including all the linen, towels and pillows; crockery, glasses and cutlery for 12 to 20 people (for a great social life – if you want it!). The kitchen not only has a Miele oven, but a small counter-top oven and a microwave, blenders and grinders of various sorts, and fully stocked kitchen drawers.
The Mitsubishi 4x4 Outlander is yours, too. It is regularly serviced by Kent, our friendly local kiwi engineer.
The house was built with both 110 and 240 volt wiring, giving you flexibility in what appliances you want to bring. The 3 new (2019) lithium batteries and 24 photo voltaic panels give more than enough electricity, even on cloudy days. And if there was ever a time when these were not enough, we have a clever reciprocal arrangement with our neighbours to draw on their panels.
Services.
Water is provided by Taveuni Estates and collected from springs up in the mountains. Again, our wonderful and generous Canadian neighbours have 2x20,000L rain collection tanks that they have also linked to our property in case of shortages. We have a general-purpose filter on the incoming main, and we drink the water from the taps. The house is located on the large and natural Taveuni Estates (www.taveuniestates.com) with an extensive metalled road system, twice weekly rubbish collection, managed verges, as well as the water supply. We pay an annual service charge for this. For more information contact taveuni@bigpond.au.
